Hoffman Knotches 479th Save - Sets All-time Record

Trevor Hoffman Saves Record

The bells were most definitely rocking Sunday at PETCO Park in San Diego on Sunday. Trevor Hoffman became the Major League All-Time Saves Leader by picking up his 479th save in a 2-1 victory over the Pirates. He pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his NL leading 43rd save in 48 chances. Hoffman passed Lee Smith as the saves record holder, which Smith had held since 1997. The record should guarantee Hoffy a spot in the Hall of Fame.

The Padres got a pair of home runs to help them sweep the 3 game series and stay 1 1/2 games ahead of the Dodgers, who also won, in the NL West.
